Forums: Suggestions

When a PC is protected by something like ‘firecoat’, an NPC is dealt damage when that NPC makes a physical attack against the protected PC. It stands to reason, then, that the same protective coat is also in effect when that PC makes a physical attack on an NPC. The protective coat should, therefore, do its damage to the defending NPC when that NPC is physically attacked by the protected PC.

‘Firecoat’ is the only damage-dealing protective coat I have encountered, but the same principle applies to any others that may exist.

I have a good two cents to put in here, but only the first penny has anthing to do with your suggestion.

1st cent: When you are wearing a coat, I do not believe that it also covers your hands and wepons. Unless you were to hit somebody with your elbow, the coat would never come in contact with the person, and therfore would have no effect on them. And seeing that Aethora has no ‘Elbow’ based attacks, it would be completely unreasonable to aply firecoat damage to a sword stroke.

2nd cent: Have you tried ‘Double Blade Defense’? It deals a good amount of damage to someone directly attacking you. I have been nearly scared by an opponent using it, and generaly have to rest a good while after the battle.

I would love to give you a dime or two along with this, but I am fresh out, and have to make a trip to the bank. Fare well to thee.

Personally I think such buffs should be negated by opposing elements in this way:

The first effect should be countered by the second:
=Buffs=
Barkcoat, Ignite
Focusing Atmosphere, Acrid Smoke or Poisonous Spores
Firecoat, Ice Shards
Rockskin, Flesh Rend
Stonecoat, Flesh Rend
Thorny Skin, Ignite
=Ailments=
Acrid Smoke, Focusing Atmosphere
Blood-letting Wound, Flesh Pass
Chill Breath, Firecoat
Poisonous Spores, Focus Atmosphere

These…are what makes sense to me, in reality…
However, there’s a major balance issue here.
I’ll work on this more later.

I think within the elemental triad, they should be equal, each being weak to one of the others, and dominate over the remaining. ex: Buffs- air loses to ice, ice to fire, fire to air. Ailments: air cures fire, fire cures frost, and frost cures…and that’s where it all falls apart…

The physical three perhaps should have 3 different effects…or something…

Forces pose more of a challenge…I haven’t gotten to use them much.

I’ll update this when my head doesn’t hurt so much >.<
