I figured I would submit this little guide to help any new players out a little.

First, I am no expert, and I’ve only been playing for two days, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. ;)

  • create a party of eight characters
  • move four characters to the active party list
  • go to travel section
  • talk with the guard
  • head east to the training arena
  • once in battle, start by ending your turns immediately until your opponent comes to YOU, You should NOT move at all when you begin. Once the enemy is close, start moving your characters to form a CROSS pattern surrounding the enemy from the north, south, east, and west sides. This prevents the enemy from moving. Now, use the HOLD command to grapple your cornered enemy and then pummel him with the rest of your characters using SLUG until the enemy is “dead as dead”, continue this strategy to defeat the remaining enemies. You should not take TOO much damage doing this, but if anyone gets really close to dying, then simply move far away for a few rounds to build your defense back up.
  • after the battle is won, drag all the items from the left side of the screen into the righthand box to LOOT the enemies. If you do not do this, you will not receive any items from the battle.
  • check your party from the party management screen, and if you have any hurt characters, drag them to the inactive characters box, and drag the healed characters to the active side, and return to travel.
  • rinse and repeat for awhile until your skills are higher; then head to the arena (west from the square) and do the same thing for a few battles.

I’ll post more as I get more experienced in the game. Hope this guide helps someone. :)

As of today (June 11th, 2007) we have just over 80 players registered and activated. Of those, I would say about 30 are “active” (play more than once a week). Of course, the game is still in testing, but I plan to start some advertising later this month.

fludson I see you’ve been playing quite a bit the past couple of days – do you have any feedback/criticism/praise/suggestions? (feel free to reply over in the suggestions forum – thanks)

First off, I love the game. I am a hardcore gamer, at home i have a top notch system and play all the major RPGS. I have been gaming online for over a decade. When I dont have time, or it’s slow at work, I browse for a turn based rpg thats interesting.

Likes..

Likes.. 1.The Combat System
a. I love the ability to buff and use different styles. To be able to buff a party member is great.
b. The ability to explore different combo’s based on your equipment
2. Navigating. it’s very easy to move around

1. Get that damn message off the combat screen that invites people to view the boards.
2. I think Buffs should last more than a turn or two
3. More variety of weapons and armor..of course some rare or unique drops. May use a random item generator to always have the hope of a “special” drop
4. Class and race options of course would be great

I like that idea, proabobly works a bit better than what I do.

My basic strategy is to first group my characters together, pick out someone, surround them, and then attack them until they are finished.

When a character becomes low in defence and health I will often put my stronger character’s closer to my enimies and keep the week or low in defence characters behind them. When it’s the weaker characters turn I simply move towards an enimy, attack, but make sure I can move back to the aprox. area the character started at to keep further away from the enimy.

My variation on this strategy:

Cluster your characters near a corner of the battlefield such that each of them can flee at any time and so that no more than two opponents can attack at melee range at a time – something like this:

000000000CC0
0000000000*C
00000000000C
000000000000

etc., where 0 represents an empty space or a space occupied by an opponent, and C represents a space for your character.

Once you’ve reached this configuration, don’t move. If you have to move, make sure you move back before you end your turn, or your character might get surrounded before you get a chance to move it.

The * is special – it can get surrounded very easily, and if anyone is there (esp. a dead body), it traps 2 characters. Don’t put your best melee fighters where they can get trapped – put your ranged magic-users in there and your melee fighters on the outside, where they can move to meet an opponent and retreat back in the same turn.

Did that make any sense?

I posted it to the wiki. I tried to give credit where credit was due, and I didn’t delete anything. I cleaned up the grammar/typos and added some of my own comments. Now, can someone put it in the ‘Help’ category and link to it from somewhere? Right now I think it’s an orphaned page.

I added a bit of spare change (its a bit more than my two cents) to the newbie guide page Saavik, it goes into a bit of detail on weapons, but not enough to give away the best secret combos that we love.

If you were logged in you could post.
