It happens to me rather frequently. I usually find a way to work around it – having ranged attacks on all characters really helps, because then your other characters can target the troublesome creature and make it stop.

Speaking of which, I really should try designing some non-metatherics ranged weapons, just for kicks.

yea it would be nice to see some bows, or maybe a spear or glaive for not quite so much distance but still

I think a bow or other ranged melee weapon would be awsome. By the way, half my damn battles that I have lost has been because I can’t move or attack.

I don’t like grappling techniques….I don’t normally use them nor do I like them…. My last battle I couldn’t move at all…..

Hmm…I don’t have trouble with grappling at all. Only one of my characters, if any, get grappled/get skill used on them to minus AP or MP to where they can’t attack or move. It’s never been a problem to me. I used to use grappling with like 3 characters for Fleshtheft, but I only use on now for Fleshtheft.

Wiped out again….Pretty Flowers is the main culprit….. All four of my char’s couldn’t move for the most part….

The area-based AP/MP drains are nasty – but then again, they’re not very effective if you spread your PCs out. Of course, that means you can’t use area-based buffs as well, either – but against some enemies, it’s the only way to survive.

Pretty flowers only lasts one round, but it actually hits defense, AP, and MP. It may be a bit too strong. I’ll have to think about balancing it a little.

Moreover, Pretty Flowers isn’t Grappling at all, but Mindwind/Plant. And it doesn’t seem very strong. Against same-level foes, I usually hit for 20-30, on a one-turn effect – and getting it to be strong and usable usually requires taking primary mindwind/plant, so it deprives the user of a lot of other actions (as neither plant, nor mindwind, actually have anything damaging on their own)
Maybe increase the AP cost on that one?
If we decrease strength… it may become too weak (sorry, but every tactic is viable – some people use lots of def buffs, and I, for example, use AP denial rather often, especially in tough fights). I’d say… uh, that’d be 8 strength on that one. Reduce it to… 5, maybe, but add a turn of effect? Stronger, but less likely to deactivate a character completely. Or maybe reduce to 4, even. And AP cost to 120?
So, to get this sorted out. My suggestions for Pretty Flowers:
Str 4 or 5, Dur 2, AP 120 – Weaker, lasts twice as long, costs more.
Str 4 or 5, Dur 1, AP 60 – Weaker, normal duration, costs less (and can, thus, be used with secondary weaponry, as utility).

Another suggestion I wanted to make… would affect this as well. But I don’t know if players will like it: Give AoE attacks (pretty flowers, lava, meteor strike, brushfire, tornado, earthquake etc.) a minimum range of 2 spaces, so they can’t be used on a foe whos standing directly in front of the metatherist.

I just want to say that I would love to see some melee weapons with range of 2 squares… or even range at 2 squares and not up close (polearms to use in ranks) like a pike or glaive. I think it would add some tactical though to game play… perhaps even calling the glaive a long blade? to save of development issues with new skill sets? Just some thoughts.
